Paul McAlister Architects designed and completed our first Certified Passive House in 2013, more than 10 years ago. We now see the adoption of Passive House as a preferred standard by local government for delivering buildings that meet the climate change 2030 targets for operation energy and energy efficiency.
Today we handed over the new classroom extension for Killicomaine Junior High School in Portadown. This job was very personal to the office as Paul McAlister’s wife is currently a teacher in the school and a former pupil. The school were delighted to have the new facilities opening and a photograph to mark the event was requested by the school.
Paul McAlister Architects were delighted to be the architects for a new 450k extension to Finaghy Primary School Belfast. The current principal Rosalind Corbett opened the school with special guest Alastair McKay who was the acting principal at the time of the project commencing.
This River Lagan footbridge had been in place for many years and needed to be almost wholly replaced due to structural instability. Paul McAlister Architects were the designers for the new foot bridge for our client Belfast City Council.

Paul McAlister Architects are delighted to be appointed as architects for Derry’s ambitious Acorn Farm Project. We are appointed with Doran Consulting Engineering as part of a multi-disciplinary team to design, deliver and project manage the capital project.
The architects of Northern Ireland have set out a series of necessary changes to Northern Ireland’s built environment to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with targets set in the Climate Change Act (NI) 2022.
At a recent visit to the Crawfordburn Passive House by Paul McAlister Architects the RSUA lobbied Finance Minister Conor Murphy to implement the long-awaited improvement in the NI building regulations in terms of mandatory energy efficiency. The finance minister subsequently announced that changes to building regulations, requiring new buildings to be up to 40% more energy efficient, will applied from 30 June 2022.
For the past number of years, up until 2021, Paul McAlister had been the Chairman of the Passive Association of Ireland.

As such Paul McAlister is co-chairman of NZEB Ireland along with Shane Colclough. This year Tomas O’Leary organised a very successful two-day conference in association with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. The event was sponsored by Kingspan Insulation and everyone was delighted with the 300 tickets available for the event sold out.
Our McNeice House was selected as the winner of the 2019 Ulster Tatler Award ‘House of the Year’. The award took into account the exterior and interior design of the house and was a competitive field. Congratulations to our clients Fearghal and Lisa McNieice.
