The Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies (CREST) is an exciting new initiative through which support is being provided to SMEs in Northern Ireland, the border counties and Western Scotland to enable them to develop sustainable ideas. Lead partner, South West College is currently constructing facilities that will be available to such businesses including its flagship “Crest Pavilion”, a £1m building that will provide demonstration facilities and an inspiring space for events and learning. This is currently under construction and has been designed to achieve the ‘Passivehaus’ standard, a BREEAM Excellent rating and to be carbon neutral. Other facilities being developed on site include an R&D laboratory with testing and prototyping facilities, and the CREST Hub which will host the CREST team and provide meeting space.

CREST is holding a seminar and study visit on the 31st January 2014, to provide an overview of the support available through the initiative and to explain how the desire to achieve high environmental standards has influenced the design of the CREST Pavilion. It represents a unique
opportunity to visit the site and see construction work in progress.

The event is open to all and will be of particular interest to businesses operating in the construction sector including architects, builders and M&E contractors. It is also likely to appeal to entrepreneurs and SMEs interested in availing of the CREST facilities and services.
