Established ‘Paul McAlister Chartered Architect’ Practice, August 2002. Part-time lecturing at Belfast Metropolitan College 2002-2005.
Royal Society of Architects diploma in Project management and Member of the Association of Project Management (2004).
In 2010 Paul McAlister became the first person in Northern Ireland to be accredited as a Certified European Passive House Designer (CEPH) from the Passive House Institute in Germany.

From 2017-2020 Paul McAlister carried out the role of Chairperson of the Passive House Association of Ireland (PHAI), a not-for-profit organisation with close links to the Passive House Institute in Germany.
In 2018 and 2019 Paul completed training in advanced conservation for historic buildings and is a registered RIBA Conversation Registrant.
In 2020 Paul McAlister was appointed as vice president of the Royal Institute of Ulster Architects (RSUA).
Other interests include travelling, sports, cycling and the great outdoors. In 2003 he qualified as a referee with the Ulster Society of Rugby Football Referees.
