Low energy construction made easy - Seminar Titanic Hotel Belfast

As part Saint-Gobain’s Build Better roadshow which will be taking place in the Titanic Hotel Belfast on Wednesday, April 3rd the Technical Academy continues its series of knowledge and awareness events with two seminar sessions on Fire Safety Compliance and Sustainable Housing.

From a site perspective, the implementation of energy efficient construction principles and detailing can help contribute to higher quality, healthier building stock. Our afternoon seminars focus on the topic of Sustainable Housing and will see construction industry experts address subject matters on how to implement a range of simple, practical and achievable low energy good practice building principles.

SPEAKERS

PAUL MCALISTER

Paul is a multi-award-winning architect, well known for his work in the field of Sustainable and energy efficient design. Paul became the first architect in Northern Ireland to be a fully Certified Passive House Designer in 2010 and is now Northern Ireland's leading specialists in Passivhaus Design.  His projects range from bespoke designed private houses, education, public buildings and buildings with commercial design requirements.

Winner of the RIBA regional architecture design award for the CREST Centre for South West College Enniskillen in 2015, this building is one of the most sustainable projects in the UK and Republic of Ireland and is the first commercial building to achieve Passivhaus Certified, BREEAM excellent and Zero Carbon.

GARRETT QUINN

Experienced and passionate about all things Passive House, Garrett has worked in the construction industry for over 25 years and discovered Passive House whilst studying for his MSc. Since then, his Company 'GP Developments' has been at the forefront of the promotion of Passive House in Ulster since 2013 and has experienced a rapid rise in Passive House interest over the intervening years.

Proficient in PHPP, Thermal Bridge modelling and all things Passive House, GP Developments is currently finishing NI’s first Passive Premium project in Armagh. Garrett also lectures for Ulster University in Renewable Energy and is a board director in the PHAI. Having spent time working in Dublin, Belfast and London, GP Developments holds the Passive House standard as their guiding light and construct all their new developments to the Passive House principles.

MARK CHESNEY

With 20 years’ experience in the design, specification, installation and servicing of central vacuum and mechanical ventilation systems including heat recovery, demand controlled central extract and positive input. Mark is a confident and knowledgeable speaker at CPD presentations to architects, consulting engineers, construction professionals, and building control departments throughout NI and RoI.

Beam has been delivering quality products and services for over 40 years.  Their energy efficient ventilation systems can be integrated in to homes to provide continuous clean, fresh, filtered air and will help reduce future energy costs.

JASON HORREX

Jason has over 10 years’ experience providing comprehensive technical support and advice to the construction industry and is now currently the Saint-Gobain Technical Academy Training Manager developing and providing training to industry professionals to promote best practice from specification to site and installation.
